Some research later, prior to the trip, I was clear that this is the place I’ll want to dine at, in the Krumlov. I was here for an early dinner, because, remember, absinthe was lunch that day.
Try pronouncing the name of the place – Krčma U dwau Maryí
I ordered a big platter that they call Old Bohemian feast. It had most of their vegetarian offerings in there. Before coming to Czech Republic and reading about it, I didn’t even know Bohemia was a region; I just thought that was a ‘style’ :/
The platter was replete with legumes, grains, vegetables and dairy. Barley, buckwheat, millets, lots of potatoes – grilled patties (they call it cake) and mashed up and boiled, cabbage, cucumber, yogurt, greens, phyllo crusted savoury vegetable pie. It all tasted great, came together very well and more than what I could ask for, after a hungry day.
And healthy! Even if you ate all of it and more, you won’t feel guilty, or uneasy which happens with the greasy spicy meals. By the river Vlatava, the views are nice as well. Highly recommend the place for a hearty meal. A classic meal, with simple things done right!
