Within a span of two weeks, I visited Gaia Veggie Shop at their Causeway Bay location.
The first visit was the child and I, as we wandered and debated whether to go for the dragon fire dance for the Mid Autumn festival that Monday, after school or not.
After much ado, we didn’t end up going for the festival that night because the hubster was to get delayed at work. So, K and I went ahead with our dinner here.
We ordered two rice rolls and were more than satiated. The child loves his fruits, mangoes, more so. And he was hungry. So it didn’t take much to have him eat his dinner.
Ever since then, he’s been wanting to eat mango sushi. We went to Veg 6 one time in between these two visits, but they were out of mangoes, so we ended up here again.
The child got his mango sushi roll again and we tried other things. Fried, spiced eggplant is my go-to at these Chinese places. I believe they flash-fry it and that preserves that colour of the eggplant. And it’s so tender and succulent! They had chunks of soy protein and some coloured bell peppers.
As good the eggplant dish was, the steamed rice with mock beef and preserved vegetables was the stark contrast. It looked so dangerous (for the lack of a better word), that had it not been an all vegetarian restaurant, I wouldn’t have dared put it in my mouth. Those protein chunks tasted as bad as they looked. So that dish was just played with and left alone!
I love Sushi. To be honest, I have tried it in Kerala, to be precise in Kochi where I live. I do not know whether it tasted like the real one. But I liked it. And I always wanted to try Mango Sushi. It’s so mouthwatering… While reading the post, my entire concentration was on Mango Sushi.
I love it too. There’s little to not like in the vegetarian version where it’s primarily rice and vegetables 🙂
