Eastern & Oriental Hotel was my gorgeous accommodation for my short, impromptu trip to Georgetown in Penang. It was beautiful, classic and all things nice.
Perched by the waterfront, it was only a little walk away from the city center. And if you were lazy still, you could always hail cabs from right there. Or walk less than 10 minutes to get the local free CAT buses that shuttle around Georgetown.
Great rooms, size and looks wise. Lavish bath, Victorian bathtubs, a pretty little balcony. Nice location, nice patios for lunches and brunches overlooking the beautiful blue waters.
Huge breakfast spreads from a plethora of breads to curries and rice, and with wide ranging hours for them, those could well be brunches. Teas, coffees, juices, fruits, you’d be spoilt for choices.
Friendly staff. A spa that I didn’t avail of. A lounge that had a happy hour at 5 PM everyday. Two swimming pools. Plenty of garden space. Beautiful halls, hallways and lobbies. I don’t even think I explored their entire facilities fully. But here’s some of what I did.
More details of the food and drinks to follow soon.
A lovely accommodation makes such a difference in your stay somewhere, doesn’t it? This place looks absolutely lovely! What a great place to enjoy your time in Georgetown.
Great pictures, I hope you had a great time, I love those Chinese details 🙂
Thanks Nives
Such lovely comfortable rooms, with a fantastic view from the balcony. What a great treat to sit there and have your breakfast! Thanks for the recommendation.
Yes, the breakfasts were all the more leisurely owing to the views 🙂
Wow, great pictures. I would like to know was there any vegan options in the breakfast or other meal menu of the hotel?
Yes Shreya. They had vegan options – breads, roti canai, lots of fruits, noodles and such.
A fine, solid hotel. A place, which I will probably ask my boss to stay in, if I have a business trip there.
Haha! Alexander, I was travelling with the child alone in a new country and hence wanted to be in a ‘safe’ and easy location to get to other places. I don’t usually stay at five stars :/
Looks like a great hotel, maybe a little pricey for my budget but looks nice none the less- I particularly like the infinity pool, I know if I was to ever stay here I’d be spending a lot of time in it 😀
Amit, it was pricey was us too, but sometimes it’s OK, I guess 🙂
Great review!! I missed Penang on my last and only trip till date to Malaysia. I was just thinking about adding Penang on my next visit. Your information on this hotel will be very useful. That bathtub looks gorgeous! And good to hear about the solid breakfast spread! I also travel with my daughter so it’s god to know you enjoyed your trip with a child there!!
I’m sure your girl will like it there. And so will you 🙂
This looks like a stunning hotel, and somewhere I’d like to stay if I’m ever there in Georgetown. I love your photos too, just so elegant!
It’s a convenient location too, unless you’re a beach person. And then you’d want to go farther west.
A comfortable stay is so important in any vacation and Eastern oriental Hotels looks really beautiful and comfortable. The rooms are lovely and so spacious. The hotel is also a century old I think. the place looks lovely in your pictures!
Thanks Amrita. Yes, it was a classic, literally.
